Two steps to freedom, SW Portugal.
Rota Vicentina is a network of walking trails in Sw Portugal. Comprising the Historical Way, the Fishermen’s Trail, and several Circular Routes, totalling 720 km, between the town of Santiago do Cacém and the Cape St. Vincent, the south westernmost point in Europe and along the south Algarve coast to Lagos.

With 13 sections and 260 km, integrating GR 11 / E9, the European long distance path connecting Sagres to St. Petersburg, the Historical Way was certified in 2016 by the European wide label “Leading Quality Trails – Best of Europe”, for its high walking quality.
Comprising 5 sections in the Alentejo and 8 complementary sections in the Algarve, totalling over 225 km, the Fishermen’s Trail is a single track along the cliffs which can only be travelled by foot. It is more demanding from a physical point of view as there are sand dunes to tackle on virtually every stage .
In 2016, there were 5 short circular routes, totalling 46km, to choose from, at Almograve, S. Luís, Troviscais, Santa Clara and Sabóia, all located in the municipality of Odemira, each with a duration of just half a day or less.
For 2019, several more circular trails were developed and marked in close proximity to the Rota Vicentina.
Now there are 22 circular trails across 4 municipalities totalling almost 260 kms, which can each be completed in half a day.
