Alentejo Litoral.

Lying right below the country’s heart, the Alentejo has served as Portugal’s breadbasket and seduces with its slow pace, a sense of modern times in slow motion. Really wild describes the Rota Vicentina, one of Europe’s newest hiking paths. The trail crosses 133 miles of Alentejo, from rough coastline to countryside where storks nest and endemic plants like camphor thyme flourish...

Rota Vicentina.

In the Alentejo, for much of its distance the Rota Vicentina takes two different routes. The Historical Way passes through main towns and villages mostly along rural trails. The Fishermen's Trail runs along the coastline following trails used by local people to reach secluded beaches and popular sea angling spots.

A large part of both routes pass through a natural park.

Natural Parks.

All in all, there’s 110 kms of wild coastline and 75 thousand hectares of protected area within Sw Alentejo and Vincentine Coast Natural Park, comprising diverse habitats, some of them still quite unchanged and untouched, where you will find several species of endemic plants as well as a large number of animal species, particularly amphibians, birds and sea fauna.

Nature, authentic rural life and a very mild climate, pampered by over 300 days of sunshine per year, make this region an unmissable destination for lovers of nature tourism.

In the eastern Alentejo, the Natural Park of the Guadiana Valley extends over almost 70 thousad hectares, located in the middle valley of the Guadiana River, on a section that extends from an area upstream of Pulo do Lobo to the mouth of the Vascão stream, on the Alentejo / Algarve border, in a territory belonging to the municipalities of Mértola and Serpa, having an evident faunistic, floristic, and geomorphological landscape and historical-cultural interest.
